Biography

Upasak Mukherjee (Upa) is a renowned Tabla virtuoso and Film and Media Composer. His work ranges from sweeping orchestral music to complex rhythms informed by musical traditions from all over the world. He was awarded the Berklee World Tour Scholarship and the Zunz Family Indian Ensemble Scholarship for his contributions towards world music and supporting the diverse creative community in Berklee by being a founding member of various programs. Upa has also served as the President of the Film Scoring Network in Berklee, working as the Founder and Director of Berklee's own film festival.

Upa has scored for a wide range of films, including "Elijah," which won  in the Academy Award qualifying Tasveer Film Festival, among other award winning works. His other  projects involve a blend of orchestral, rock, and percussive scores, often blending these genres effortlessly. His Tabla performances have spanned four continents and collaborations with multiple Grammy artists, including Mike Block, Omar Hakim, Edward Perez, Claudio Ragazzi, Patrice Rushen and the Berklee Indian Ensemble, to name just a few. His popular musical feature in Berklee's "Two Track" series is a great representation of his personal works. Being heavily inspired by his Guru, the Grammy nominated Pt. Subhen Chatterjee and his collaborations with members of Yo-Yo Ma's Grammy winning Silk Road Ensemble, his music brings together the musical traditions of the world under a single umbrella. While his independent music seeks to bring joy and harmony to the world, his film collaborations often tell impactful stories.

Being trained in the art of Tabla playing from a very young age by his Guru, Upa has a deep understanding of rhythms, which profoundly impacted his further education in Berklee College Of Music as a Film and Media major, a Game and Interactive Media Scoring minor and a Music Technology minor with guitar as his primary instrument. Currently, Upa is a full time film and media composer, who also performs extensively all over the world.
